Topography, Nature, and Climate

Flores Island is one of Main Island in East Nusa Tenggara province located south east of Indonesia. Flores mostly covered by mountain and hills lies from west part to east part of the Island. With this Topography make the Island has wonderful and beautiful landscape. In central of Flores there is one of mysterious and dramatic sight that very well-known in the world that is three colored Crater Lake with mystic legend and believe by local people there. Flores with low rainfall every year makes the land dry and covered by grass and savannas.  Weather is quite different with other part of Indonesia. Temperature is average 33-38 Celsius degree, with hot weather along the year.

Culture and People

Flores is unique with variety of culture and traditions that hold by local people around the Island. Administrative after Indonesia independence was divided the regency according to the culture, tradition and language. This make every regency is different culture, tradition, and language it proved by their different traditional houses from one region to other region. Every region is different secret ceremony to give offering to their ancestral. Even people are catholic but old religion is using for their ceremonies such as; open New Year with their local calendar, fielding, agriculture, born, dying, and thanksgiving to the creator.

People is consist of two races that Polynesian leave in the east part or black people and Melanesian leave in west part of Island or Malay type with brown color skin. Mostly people 85 % Catholic, rest is Protestant and Muslim live along the cost of Island. Flores people was migrated from south of China cross to Cambodia, Malaysia, Sumatra Island, Jawa, Bali, Lombok, Sumbawa and a part of Flores Island. East part was migrated from Africa, New Guinea, west Irian and Aborigine in Australia.

Flores people has many attraction on their culture that used on their ceremonies depend on their function of their goal. In the west region with Caci dance, Reba in central, Rokatenda dance and so much more…
